Oklahoma Northern Style Drum Groups

This is where you can keep track of all your favorite Oklahoma Northern Style Drum Groups. For those Drum Groups that are willing to share their information here on the Pow-Wow Oklahoma! website, your listening public can easily match the names to the faces when they attend an Oklahoma Pow-Wow. For those that aren't aware, the Singers and the Drum are the heartbeat of any Pow-Wow. Without these two simple elements, it would be hard pressed to call any relative event a true Pow-Wow. Most of the Northern Drum Groups are well established throughout Oklahoma and the Nation, so they don't really need any extra introduction to those on the Pow-Wow trail; but we will do our part to help them out with some additional exposure. While some weekend "pick-up" Drum Groups help add variety to any Pow-Wow, this section is only designed to help promote well established Drum Groups that sing together frequently or exclusively. Please understand and respect this decision "before" you send in your Drum Group's bio information. The following information will need to be emailed to the "Webmaster" by the drum group's Creator or Lead Singer. Everything listed below is of course "optional".
  • Group Picture: (With the names of all the singers starting from back row "left to right", middle row "left to right", or bottom row "left to right").
  • Biography: (Please list where your drum group is from, where you got your start, and any other important information that best describes your singers).
  • Contact Name: (If you would like to leave a Contact Name).
  • Contact Method: (If you would like to leave either a contact email address or phone number).
  • Information about CD: (If your Drum Group has a CD out on store shelves, you may list where people may purchase it.)

Biography: We are The Plainz Drifterz and we started singing together in 1995. We came together as five brothers that were tired of the grief we got from the drums groups we were singing with. Today we have many singers that sing with and are honored that they come to sit with us to sing and have a good time. We do our best to teach what we know to others so that our ways and traditions live on through others so it wont be lost. Today the originals are not always together to carry on like that, but the next generation is getting ready to carry us into the future. Our current roster includes many nations as always and we are glad to introduce them to you.

Since 1968, the group has had the privilege to travel across the nation to many tribal or Indian organizational events to serve as host, drum, being recognized for their northern style of singing. In retrospect, members of the group were not accomplished or knowledgeable singers at the outset. Because of their individual interest to learn, they have become well-established individuals through repetitive training to become a singer. Each participates actively within their own tribal Traditions, thus, enhancing their knowledge in a spiritual way. This brings an added value collectively to the group. This knowledge from "hands-on" experience, in a traditional manner, has contributed to the overall prominence of the group.
