About Us: Who Is Pow-Wow Oklahoma!
Maruweka haitsi! (Welcome Friend)
The Pow-Wow Oklahoma! Website is proud to be Native owned and operated by Mycol Wahnee from the Comanche Tribe of Oklahoma. After many years of trying to remember the names, dates, and locations of the numerous Pow-Wow flyer announcements read aloud at various Pow-Wow's abroad, I felt the time had come for a dedicated internet portal that made life easier for myself and many others in the State to plan for upcoming events. It became a tiresome chore calling friends, sending out emails, and sometimes even "guessing" when the next Pow-Wow in Oklahoma was to be held. While there are other fantastic websites on the internet that already accomplish what Pow-Wow Oklahoma! aspires to become, those sites do not cater specifically to the Pow-Wow lifestyle shared by the fine people that reside in the State of Oklahoma. In time, this website will achieve the desired results by listing as much information about any future Pow-Wow's that takes place within Oklahoma so that you can plan accordingly to attend the event of your choice.
Many of the older, errr "more experienced" Pow-Wow'ers out there might remember me from my dancing days back in the mid 1980's up until around 1996 when I just got burned out of being on the Pow-Wow Circuit every weekend and was ready for a change from Grass Dancing competitevely. I retired from Grass Dancing as my knee's just couldn't stand the abuse and focused my energy on raising a wonderful family as well as pursuing other life endeavors. As I run into relatives and friends throughout Oklahoma, one of the first things mentioned between us is: "So where's the Pow-Wow at?" and ultimately my answer is, "I don't know, I was going to ask you that"! After too many of those conversations, the cartoon light bulb went off above my head with this idea and so Pow-Wow Oklahoma! was born.
I will do as much as I can to help spread the word about your Pow-Wow or Alternative Event throughout the State of Oklahoma, but the success of this website will largely depend on everyone out there to provide me with as much information about your Pow-Wow related event as possible. If you have any questions or comments, please don't hesitate to contact me via email "here" and I will do my best to answer your request in a timely manner.
Uraako! (Thank you very much)
